Before you give notice
Check whether your agreement is fixed-term or periodic, the proposed handover date, any break lease issue, how the notice will be served and what records you will keep.
Use the current RTA form and guidance. Do not rely on an old copy saved from another tenancy.
Moving-out plan
Plan cleaning, repairs, exit condition report, photos, utility readings, key return, forwarding address and bond refund steps before the final day.
- Take dated photos after cleaning.
- Keep receipts and invoices.
- Return all keys and access devices with proof.
- Keep a copy of the exit condition report.
Fixed-term and break lease risk
If you leave before a fixed term ends, costs and duties may apply unless a specific pathway changes the position. Check current RTA guidance and get advice before assuming the cost.
